Oxfam recruiting Trustees

27/2/2008

Share the Benefits of your Experience

Being a member of Oxfam GB Council of Trustees is an influential and challenging role. Trustees make a significant contribution to the current work and future direction of the charity by serving the organisation in its ongoing mission to bring an end to poverty and injustice.  This is an opportunity to make your own contribution, as two trustees complete their tenures at the end of 2008.

The fact that you are reading this tells us that you have more than just a passing interest in the charity. To be appointed as a Trustee, however, an interest is not enough; you must be able to demonstrate a real commitment to and passion for Oxfam's aims, its values and its work.

In helping to shape Oxfam’s future direction, you will need to be able to think strategically, be creative and bring a range of different perspectives to the Council of Trustees.   You will be the kind of person who feels most comfortable and productive working in a highly collaborative style to deliver sustainable progress against a bold mission.

We are keen to have people with substantial knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas:

The workings of government and policy at both national and global levels
Social Movements, in the UK or abroad, which involve the mobilisation of people around a common cause
Income generation through fundraising and / or innovative retail streams
Public Relations and Communications through the media

On a practical level you will need to attend a minimum of five meetings per year – and some additional sub-group or committee meetings – for an initial tenure of three years.

To apply, please visit our online recruitment website at http://www.oxfam.org.uk/jobs/trusteerecruitment

We welcome applications from people who are from diverse backgrounds – social, cultural, geographical – and we would particularly welcome applications from women and those individuals with a lived and working knowledge of Latin America or Asia.

Closing date: 4 April 2008.
